Members of the horse family, zebras are known for their boldly patterned black and white striped coats. Each stripe pattern, like a human fingerprint, is completely unique to each individual zebra. Zebras live in a range of habitats, from grasslands to mountains to coastal hills.

Like horses, they have four gaits: walk, trot, canter, and gallop. Though generally slower than horses, zebras have incredible stamina when running that allows them to run long distances avoiding predators.zebra_stripes_wall_tapestry__75913.1445824974

Zebras have excellent eyesight as well as night vision, and even better hearing than horses because of their larger, rounder ears. Their exotic stripe patterns are believed to be a form of camouflage that help the zebra blend into the grassline in prairie settings.  Though not many people realize it, a zebra's body is actually black with white stripes and not white with black stripes.
