Today is official World Octopus Day, a holiday set aside to celebrate the unique beauty and intelligence of the cephalopods we have to know and love. The octopus is a mysterious creature that has captivated our imaginations for centuries, and continues to do so.
There are about 300 recognized species of octopus, ranging in size, color, habitat, and intelligence level. They can change their shape, change their coloring, and mimic the movements of other animals - traits which have earned them a special veneration from humans.
