Today, June 8th, is official World Oceans Day, a time set aside to study, celebrate, and further our relationship with the world's oceans. Healthy oceans are critical to human survival, as we rely on ocean water to regulate climate, provide habitats for much of our food, generate a large amount of the oxygen we breathe, provide habitats for medicinal plants and algae, and more. From organized, community-wide beach clean-ups to maritime celebrations, World Oceans Day is a time to both celebrate and reflect on how we can protect and conserve some of our most precious natural resources.
Want to get involved? Check out World Ocean Day listings for local events here: http://www.worldoceansday.org/events/community/add, or organize your own World Ocean Day event.
