This year, on World Environment Day, we celebrate the Earth's gifts and take action to preserve and protect our environment. From planting trees to recycling, there are a ton of ways you can help preserve the precious resources on Earth.
In 1972, the UN General Assembly decided that a step should be taken in order to maintain a balance between the environment and the human interference. Two years later the World Environment Day was celebrated for the first time on June 5, 1974. Since that day, countries around the world celebrate today with the goal of bettering the environment.
This year's theme is "connecting people to nature - in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator." What might that theme mean to you? How do you feel connected to nature? What are some ways to increase or expand our personal connection to the specific place where we live? These are the questions we consider on this important holiday.
