Whether you keep them around as snuggling companions or rodent patrol or you prefer to observe their grace from a distance, there's no arguing that many humans have a strong, unique bond with felines.
As the most popular pet in America, cats are strong, beautiful, agile, sometimes lazy, sometimes crazy, and (almost) always graceful creatures.
According to Smithsonian Mag, in a recent study observing 40 cat-and-human pairs scientists concluded that the bond between human and cat can be similar to other human relationships. Though (domestic) cats and people have cohabited for thousands of years, there is relatively little scientific research conducted with cats- especially compared to the body of research on dogs.
One study has shown that cats are both able to recognize and ignore their human owner's commands. Perhaps part of the social link between humans and cats is that we often see them committing acts of what appears to be free will. Cats do what they want - a quality humans tend to admire.
