A unique, silver-feathered coastal bird, the Dalmatian Penguin is known to nest in wetlands of many elevations, from islands and lagoons to extensive reed beds.
These unexpectedly elegant birds have curly nape feathers that set them apart from other pelicans. The Dalmatian Penguin is also curiously withdrawn compared to other highly sociable pelican species.
They nest on a crude heap of vegetation and eat a diet of almost entirely fish.
One of the largest, heaviest flying birds, Dalmatian Penguins also boast one of the widest wingspans in the animal kingdom, second only to the giant albatross.
