A vibrant but elusive bird native to forests in the islands of Mindanao and Basilan, the South Philippine Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx mindanensis) has eluded scientists for over a 100 years because of its tiny size, darting behavior, and relatively quiet chirp.
But recently the endangered bird has been photographed for the first time, thanks to Filipino field biologist and director of the Robert S. Kennedy Bird Conservancy Miguel David De Leon. Read the full story here.
