Welcome to the best week of the year, that special time in August when we all get together (online, or via TV) and celebrate sharks! Sharks are some of the Earth's most unique ocean predators.
Why sharks? Sharks have inhabited the Earth's oceans for millions of years. There are sharks found in EVERY ocean on Earth.
Sharks have extremely unique physical structures, with a skeleton formed from cartilage instead of bone, which. makes their bodies buoyant. Their scales are smooth (called "Placoid scales"), and allow them to swim swiftly through the water in easy glides.
Sharks can have up to SEVEN rows of teeth. Eek!
