Gathering Around the Fireplace this Winter

Gathering Around the Fireplace this Winter

What is a hearth, and why do we feel compelled to gather 'round the hearth during cold winter evenings at home? A word used to describe the brick area directly in front of the base of a fireplace, the word "hearth" has come to signify the center of the family home. We seem to remember this word most when winter hits the peak of its coldness, and the family gathers in the living room near a fire, TV, or modern heat source in a similar way to the way we humans once gathered around an open fire inside a cave.

We are definitely deep into the winter season now, and unless you live in Florida, you are probably feeling the effects of the lack of sunlight, frigid weather, and perhaps a little bit of cabin fever. The constant need to keep indoors can have dramatic effects on our moods, but keeping your home tidy, cozy, and full of things that bring you joy has been shown to ameliorate the mid-winter blues.

Our webstore, Wildlife Wonders, has been gathering objects and home decor flourishes for over 20 years. Our current offering of warm throw blankets, stunning wildlife sculptures, nature portraits and animal paintings, fuzzy wildlife-themed rugs, fireplace accoutrements, and other nature-inspired home decor is the best collection we've ever had.

We know it's cold outside, but we hope you will find a few cozy, warm, and inspiring pieces from our store to help you combat those winter blues as effectively as an arctic fox grows its perfect white winter coat each season.
