A creature beloved by children and adults alike, the Giant Panda is known for its unique black and white coloring and it's peaceful, plant-eating lifestyle. One of the gentlest large animals, the Giant Panda thrives on Eucalyptus leaves and relaxation.
Giant pandas typically live between 14 and 20 years in the wild and can sometimes live up to 35 years in captivity. They reach sexual maturity between 5 and 6 years of age, and mate in springtime, between March and May.
The typical reproductive rate of the Giant Panda is about 1 cub every 2 years. Most panda cubs leave their mothers when she becomes pregnant again, which is usually around 18 months after their birth.
Compared to most other bear species, pandas are relatively solitary animals who prefer a quiet, calm life among trees. Each adult panda has a well-defined home range, and though they are not aggressive, they will keep their territory clear through vocalization and territory marking.
