About Cloisonne Jewelry
The word cloisonne comes from the French cloison, meaning cell, and refers to the process of arranging dozens of tiny cells on the surface of each jewelry piece, then filling the cells with colored enamel. Natural colored minerals are ground to a fine powder and mixed with water to form a mixture that is hand applied to the sterling silver foundation using tiny spatulas, delicate paint brushes, or small syringes. When heated in a kiln, the enamel becomes a brilliant, color-fast glass. All of our cloisonne jewelry is enameled on its backside - a process known as counter enameling. This minimizes tarnishing, enhances the appearance and significantly strengthens the pieces. The bamboo used for our gift boxes is plantation grown and it is not a source of food or habitat for endangered pandas.
